High Resolution MRI (Bright Focus)

HEALTHY VOLUNTEERS – YOU ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN AN MRI RESEARCH STUDY

PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Lirong Yan, PhD; IRB Project: STU00217550
STUDY TITLE: High Resolution MRI (Bright Focus)

The purpose of our study is to test experimental imaging methods (MRI) used to evaluate the structure and function of the blood flow in the brain. MRI scans are medical imaging procedures without the use of harmful radiation. Healthy volunteers are invited to participate in a brain research study at Northwestern University. Our research group uses brain scans to develop and understand MRI techniques to help improve clinical diagnosis, treatment and follow-up assessment in patients with cerebrovascular disease.

Eligible volunteers will be:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Able to have an MRI scan
  • No history of developmental, neurological, or psychiatric disorders

This study includes questionaries and an MRI brain scan at the Center for Translational Imaging at Northwestern. The MRI scan takes approximately one hour. These procedures will be at no cost to you and will occur during one study visit lasting up to two hours. Participants will be compensated $30.

Arterial spin labeling MR angiography and perfusion imaging in cerebral revascularization

HEALTHY VOLUNTEERS – YOU ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN AN MRI RESEARCH STUDY

Study Information:

  • Participation will require 1 study visit and take up to 2 hours of your time.
  • Study visit consist of an MRI
  • Scan will take place at Northwestern University Chicago campus

Monetary compensation will be provided.

Participant Criteria:

  • Must be 18-89 years old and reported to be healthy
  • Must not be claustrophobic (afraid of being in small spaces)

Other criteria discussed upon screening.

Volunteers Invited for MRI Research to Unlock Mysteries of Brain Aging!

What does the study involve?:

This study will determine structural and functional changes of the brain blood vessels associated with one’s risk for cognitive impairment (decline of memory and thinking capabilities) by using non-invasive high-resolution MRI. Your participation is important to identify early imaging markers of brain health, which help us to understand, measure, and follow vascular changes over time, and potentially even prevent their progression.

Eligibility:
  • Ages 55+
  • History of at least 1 of the following: diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, high cholesterol, or stroke
    OR
  • No history of diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol or stroke
  • Other criteria discussed upon screening.

What’s involved?:
  • 1 hour long MRI brain scan
  • 1 hour long cognitive assessment
